Artists Practising Well Writing

Following the publication of Artists practising Well in 2019, I was invited to write articles for a range of contexts including Arts Professional, Contemporary Visual Arts Network England (CVAN) and the Cultural Institute. Each offered an opportunity to reflect upon the research after publication, after conversations, and when the context of the world had changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

You can read:

  • Providing opportunities for creativity shouldn’t be at the expense of the person delivering them. It’s time to pay attention to the needs of creative practitioners. Read more from Caring for the Carers (Arts Professional)

  • [This article] considers how inconsistencies in affective support for creative practitioners working in health and wellbeing settings can be addressed to protect the health of artists and contribute to the best quality practice for participants. Read more from If the arts are positive for participants so too should they be for the creative practitioners delivering them (CVAN)

  • As part of Beyond Measure?, an online programme exploring research and evidence in culture and health, in July 2020 I was invited to curate a Twitter chat on the ‘Artist as Researcher: Impact on the Practitioner’. I wanted to explore how artists are adapting, translating and re-inventing practice as we navigate our way through the significant changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more from Adapting / translating / re-inventing (Cultural Institute / Beyond Measure twitter chat).
